Colombia’s independence is long and bloody. November 11 is an important date because it was a precedent for all independence revolutions throughout South America. This sense of revolution and bravery that the people of Cartagena displayed earned their city the nickname la “Ciudad Heroica” the “Heroic City.”

El Dia de la Raza is more important than most Colombians know. This day commemorates the ruthlessness and violent way in which our current race came about. Even though Christopher Columbus and the Spanish Crown/Catholics were the epitome of evil I have to appreciate the boldness with which they conquered and bled out a once thriving society.
